Way to go: 12 more roads to be widened

Way to go: 12 more roads to be widened
The Times of India

Bangalore: After a delay of over a year in widening city roads, the government has finally decided to go ahead by invoking provisions of TDR (Transferable Development Rights).

CM Kumaraswamy on Monday said of the 95 roads identified, 12 will be taken up on a fast-track basis. “I’ll ask BWSSB and Bescom to take care of utilities that come in the way. TDR has not been popular with people. Henceforth, the BDA and BMP will co-ordinate in acquiring land using TDR.’’

This means, BMP will be a financial intermediary between the builder and buyer. To popularise TDR, the BMP itself will buy land certificates and sell them to buyers.

The government has begun the process of acquiring land. For these 12 roads, the BMP needs 38% government, 24% defence and 26% public lands. Acquiring defence and public lands has hit a roadblock with citizens not taking to the concept of certificates. BMP commissioner K Jairaj said once the land is acquired, they can start modern designs on either side of the footpath.

Roads to be widened by 30 metres:

Bellary Road; Palace Road; Seshadripuram Road; Nrupathunga Road; Hosur Road; Hosur-Luskar Road; Airport Road; Cotton Pet main Road, K G Road, Race Course Road. By 24M: Dewanga Hostel & Lower Agaram roads.
