Save Varthur lake campaign: Ecology club

BANGALORE: Varthur lake has been a cause of concern for the residents of Varthur. To save the lake from pollution, the members of Sahayadri Eco Club of K K High School and students of Varthur will hold a silent protest by forming human chain from Varthur to Kodi on the World Environment Day at 11 a m on June 5.

The protest intends to create awareness and bring the matter to the notice of the authorities. The stink emanating from the lake is unbearable for the residents and the width of the Varthur-kodi Road is also narrowed due to the dumping of dirt from the construction sites.

The Southwest region of the lake has been encroached by some private people and converted as roads. The members of Sahayadri Eco Club have addressed this problem to deputy commissioner, Bangalore Urban district and lake Development Authority but to no avail.
