BANGALORE: The newly built Bagalur road was inaugurated on Thursday, and it could serve as a model for Bangalore roads, thanks to the initiative of MP H T Sangliana.

The government is examining Rs 66 crore pilot projects for the improvement of village roads, said Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

In a speech read out in his absence by Minister for Youth Services and Sports Alkod Hanumanthappa, Kumaraswamy said grants had been released for Bangalore Rural and Urban districts.

The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of Bangalore North MP H T Sangliana and the engineering department for their work. Hanumanthappa praised Sangliana for getting funds sanctioned above the Rs 50 lakh cieling under the MP Local Area Development fund.

The 12.5 km road connects Bagalur and Budigere and was reconstructed under the MP Local Area Development Scheme. It was laid at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore.

This road was asphalted some 25 years back. It connects Yelahanka and Hoskote and provides access to people from 40 villages. Kempaiah, a senior citizen, said that earlier MPs had not heeded people’s requests. ‘‘I feel like I am travelling on the national highway,’’ he said.
