Residents see red over violations in land use

Residents see red over violations in land use
The Times of India

Rajajinagar: To avert a possible Koramangala, residents of Rajajinagar VI Block on Monday staged a dharna protesting against what they called rampant commercialisation and industrialisation of the area.

Some 100 residents, under the aegis of Nagarika Rakshana Vedike, sat on 12th C Main Road and demanded that byelaw violations and unauthorised constructions be stopped. Explains resident B T Srinivas Murthy: There are so many paper and package industries and a huge printing factory in a residential locality. It’s affecting all of VI Block. And for want of space, everybody has started extending their demarcated space.

There is just a small area separating Peenya industrial area from Rajajinagar VI Block which explains the influx of industries into residential localities.

Apparently, the industries are supposed to have at least 15 feet lung space from any residential locality, but have now mushroomed as ‘neighbours’ in peaceful areas.

The jurisdiction police officer and ward engineer promised to hold talks with industry owners within a week.
The BMP had earlier conducted a survey in Koramangala on illegal change in land use and demolished many structures.
