THE Horticulture Department, which has been making efforts to promote multicropping among the farmers of the State, has decided to have Biodiversity as the theme for the Independence Day Flower Show this year.

The department has already begun making arrangements for the flower show, that is expected to commence in the first week of August.

"Multi-cropping is always better than monoculture as one can grow various crops in a single plot of land. To encourage the farmers of the State to take up multi-cropping, we have decided to have Biodiversity as the theme," Lalbagh Deputy Director M Jagdish said.

"The latest developments in the field of horticulture will be highlighted this time. Quite obviously, the focus will also be on the stalls on organic farming in the I-day flower show," said Horticulture Department Director G K Vasant Kumar.

"Though the theme for the exhibition was minor fruits last year, we had people coming from Pune to set up stalls on food processing. This year also, well encourage the setting up of such food processing stalls. We want our farmers to know more about food processing," he said.

One of the special attractions of this years flower show will be the Rural Culture in Horticulture concept, where farmers will be taught to produce the best, both in terms of quality and quantity.

"Both the government and private organisations will be showcasing their high-yield varieties of fruits and flowers. They will introduce their products to the farming community," Jagdish added.

So, it seems that Bangaloreans have a great time awaiting them.

Roses, Dahlia, Anthurium, Cox Combs, Orchids and other varieties will all be there in the Glass House of Lalbagh, to set a riot of colours and to give a royal treat to the eyes of visitors.
