Bangalore: Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Commissioner K. Jairaj has directed officials to be prepared to tackle emergency situations and provide immediate relief to people affected by the rain.

Flooding in areas such as Journalists Colony, Jaibheema Nagar, Nayandahalli Tank had been cleared. Storm water drains had been cleared at areas near Yediyur Lake and in Kadarenahalli. In areas such as Ejjipura, Ambedkar Nagar, Bandappa colony, Gururaja Layout and Chamundi Nagar Layout, steps will soon be taken to clear the areas.

The BMP has come out with a detailed report on the problems faced by every ward and steps needed to ensure that the problem does not recur, a press release said.

A storm water drain would be built within 60 days at MIG Military areas to prevent flooding of surrounding areas.

In areas prone to inundation, the BMP had planned to set up water tanks to pump out water and release to main drains, apart from clearing the storm water drains.

This would be undertaken at Hebbal, Sanjaynagar, Sudhamnagar, Kamakya Layout and other areas, the release said.

Retention walls would be repaired at Srinagar bus stand and Jaibheema Nagar.
