BANGALORE: Chairman of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) N C Muniyappa said innovative measures would be taken to ease flooding in City during the monsoon.

He was speaking at the Motivation Programme arranged for the BWSSB and BMP engineers here on Saturday.

He said the City had witnessed flooding due to the overflow of water from tanks and the new method being adopted would ease these problems. “We need to work on an action plan, whereby nearly three feet water from the tanks will be pumped out prior to the monsoon. Certain lakes which have caused flooding during the last rains will be identified and an action plan will be submitted to the Chief Minister,’’ he said.

The chairman asserted that there was a need to set up a high-level co-ordination committee for the overview of developmental works. “There are 12 executive engineers in the BMP and six in the BWSSB. The committee should meet every week to ensure that the work is carried out without causing any inconvenience to citizens,’’ he said.

He said the cleaning of storm water drains was under way. “The debris has not been cleared from the Chalagatta and Vrushabavati valleys. Mud dumped on the tankbund areas will cause havoc during heavy rains,’’ he added.
