Bangalore: A ware that delay in infrastructure projects in the City was coming in for constant criticism, new BDA Commissioner M K Shankaralinge Gowda has chosen the flyover projects at Airport Road and Jayadeva Hospital for his first inspection.

Gowda, who held the first review meeting of BDA officials on Saturday , said he would like to personally monitor the progress of projects on Monday . Gowda, until recently the IT secretary , assured the work on these two flyovers will be completed by June.

"W e want all works to be completed on schedule," he said. The flyovers have missed several deadlines.

Besides speeding up the pending infrastructure projects, Gowda said the meeting also focused on distribution of sites for beneficiaries and ensuring better service at BDA layouts like providing civic amenties. BDA’s role after distribution of sites was also discussed at the meeting.

Meanwhile, talking to Vijay T imes, Gowda said the work on the 114-km Peripheral Ring Road will commence at the earliest.

A joint survey has been initiated by the engineering , land acquistion and planning departments of BDA to look into the ground realities for the project.

"The survey itself is a process for land acquistion. Earlier , we had conducted an aerial survey . W e need to reduce the inconvenience and other obstacles and have a proper planning for the project," he said.

Asked about the objection by Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) to the BDA’s peripheral road construction at some stretches, Gowda said any number of roads for a growing city like Bangalore will not go unused.

"W e have vehicle users and people will use the roads and our roads will be used widely by general public as it is toll-free," he said.

It may be recalled the BMIC had earlier objected to the peripheral ring road saying that it will be close to the BMIC road and had requested the BDA to construct two normal roads on either side.
