BANGALORE: Even as the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) plans major programmes to spruce up the parks in the city, the parks have many problems. Two parks in Ganganagar between 2nd and 3rd main have no illumination facility.

The parks, one on 4th cross Road and another on 8th cross have no lights which becomes unsuitable for the evening walkers.

While the park on 4th cross has lamp posts has no lamps and the park on 8th cross has no such facility at all.

BMP’s deputy conservator of forest Krishna Udupudi said the parks would be provided with lights soon.

Though electrification is not handled by the horticulture department, he felt there was a need of an expert heading electrical department.

Further, Udupudi said parks need to be improved comprehensively and sought co-operation from the resident welfare associations (RWA).

‘‘We have about 300 neighbourhood parks and we welcome local RWAs to adopt the parks. We would give them 75 percent of maintenance cost and they will have to bear the balance 25 percent,’’ he said.

Apparently the civic body spends Rs 6 crore for annual maintenance of parks and RWAs can use the funds more productively.
