BANGALORE: The Mahakavi Kuvempu Road Owners Association on Friday protested against the Metro Rail project. The protest was held at Gayathri Park, Mariyappana Palya under the leadership of former MLA and Advocate Pramila Nesargi.

Speaking at a press conference, President of the Association Anand said that due to the Metro Rail project, over 500 shops at Mahakavi Kuvempu road had been demolished.

He further mentioned that the road had many ATMs and banks. They might have to shift to different places, which in turn would affect their business. The Srirampuram Post office will be shifted to another place due to the same reason.

Anand said that even though the Centre had not given any permit to the project, the BMRTC and KIADB has given notice to acquire land. There are many schools and colleges at Mahakavi Kuvempu Road, will be affected, he said.

The road also has Harishchandra Ghat and Muslim crematorium, the project may affect the religious sentiments. The project has an adverse effect on environment as over 300 trees have to be chopped out.
