HDK hints at regularisation
Deccan Herald
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday said he would take a decision on regularisation of unauthorised constructions in revenue layouts within a week, after discussing the issue in the Cabinet meeting.
He disclosed this while responding to letters invited by Deccan Herald from its readers on the issues which need to be addressed by the government on a priority basis.
Asserting that he would give priority to the regularisation process by collecting penalty as a one-time measure, Mr Kumaraswamy said such a measure would help the poor and middle-class people who had invested their life-time earnings on these structures.
He said regularisation of unauthorised structures in Bangalore alone was expected to fetch around Rs 1,000 crore. The penalty amount would be used for upgrading infrastructure facilities, including improving of roads, and ensuring that these layouts did not turn into slums in the future.
The chief minister made it clear that constructions only on small sites like 20x30, 30x40 and 60x40 would be regularised.
After this one-time regularisation, strict action would be initiated against any fresh unauthorised structures.
Sources in the government said the Bangalore Development Authority would be asked to develop infrastructure in the revenue layouts around Bangalore City. They pointed out that no rule regarding infrastructure had been followed while forming these layouts and most of them did not even have proper documents.
Now, the BDA would not only provide infrastructure facilities, but also provide proper documents such as sale deeds for these properties, after collecting penalty, the sources noted.
Meanwhile, referring to the increasing traffic flow between Bangalore and Mysore, the chief minister on Saturday said that he would use his good offices to expedite the doubling of railway track between the two cities.
