Residents court arrest to protest bad roads

Over 50 residents of Srinivasanagar Bank Colony took to the streets, sat on the main road during the morning rush hour and courted arrest — all to express their frustration over bad roads in their locality. Even as traffic policemen threatened to put them behind bars for creating chaos on the road, the defying protesters continued to complain about the lack of good roads, footpaths and basic infrastructure in their area.

In fact, many protesters, including aged ones, were physically lifted and removed from the road by the traffic police. Later, venting their anger against the police too, a resident said, “We wanted Mayor to come and see the miserable condition of our area. However, the traffic police told us we cannot block traffic. So we courted arrest rather than withdraw our protest,” she said.
