Protests demanding better infrastructure spreads

Bangalore: Protesters are employing novel means to register their protests which otherwise were like a line drawn on water. Like on Friday when members of the city unit of the BJP protested against bad roads in Gandhinagar constituency by planting saplings in potholes.
Squatting near Nataraj theatre, they lambasted the poor condition of roads which has been the case for several months. Explains BJP spokesperson S Prakash, “the BWSSB laid the sanitary pipes weeks ago. Now what prevents the BMP from taking up asphalting works and laying a decent road here?’’
The stretch between Nehru circle and the BMP west office, after Nataraj theatre has been unmotorable for a long time and the biggest difficulty for citizens has been combating the cloud of dust when vehicles pass through.
Some other allegations made by the members are that most development work at the BMP has been restricted to bills rather than actual work and ward grants have been stalled. “We have to search for roads among potholes’’ they said.
Nagarbhavi residents to take to the streets: The less said the better about pothole-infested roads in BDA Layout, Nagarbhavi II stage, as they have not been asphalted since 1994. Tired with the lack of infrastructure in their area, residents of Nagarbhavi will take to the streets on Saturday. They will stage a protest near the BDA complex on Kengeri-Magadi Ring Road.
Secretary of Nagarbhavi II Stage Residents Association J B Nayak said ever since the area had been brought under the aegis of the Rajarajeshwari CMC, development works have been a mirage. Other association members rued that neither elected representatives nor CMC officials evinced any interest in the area’s development.
In a bid to highlight the problem before the government, residents even plan to gherao the CMC office and later protest in front of the Vidhana Soudha.
