BANGALORE: Transport Minister M Mallikarjun Kharge said Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) should take up infrastructure development ‘seriously’.

The BMP should carry out further works to upgrade the infrastructure,” he said.

“The Government will extend every support to the BMP on road improvement. The Government will fulfill proposals in this matter,” he added.

Mayor Mumtaz Begum blamed departments for not coordinating enough to maintain roads in good condition.

“The BMP is striving to provide the best of the facilities to build better roads, but it is of no use. Once the road is laid, BWSSB digs it up for pipeline repair and Bescom for cable laying. The police throw up their hands saying, ‘We are short of staff’. All departments should come forward to maintain discipline on roads, not just the traffic police,” she added.
