A day after IT major, Infosys, announced plans to look beyond Bangalore for its future operations, State IT Secretary M K Shankaralinge Gowda chose to downplay the company’s decision. Speaking to Deccan Herald on Thursday, Gowda said the decision was not critical considering that Infosys was still expanding its operations in Karnataka, outside Bangalore.

“They haven’t spoken about looking out of Karnataka. In fact, they have major expansion plans in Mysore and Mangalore. A Government Order has been issued clearing sanction of space for the company in the Mysore SEZ. We have also cleared 300 acres for Infosys in Mangalore,” he said. The IT Secretary said that Infosys’ apprehensions about space in Bangalore could also be dealt with in due time. “It may take some time before the committee which is dealing with land clearance in Bangalore comes out with its recommendations. As an independent company, it’s only natural that they are thinking of expansions,” he said. Gowda added that the Government was hopeful about Infosys setting up units in Hubli and Gulbarga as well. “We are really keen to have them in Hubli and Gulbarga, which are potential growth regions for IT,” he said. Infosys had cited want of space as a reason for looking at options outside Bangalore.
