PARKING your vehicle in the parking lot attached to any railway station in the City should not be a problem any more as the South W estern Railway has plans to install parking ticket vending machines to simplify the process.

"The parking ticket vending machines will be introduced within a week’s time in the parking lots of all the railway stations in the City . One machine is already in use at the Bangalore City station parking lot. All other parking contractors will own similar machines at the earliest," Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr DCM) Gagarin said.

"This is a move to prevent contractors from cheating the common man. With this computerised system, there will be no room for any sort of cheating and the customers need not pay extra money as the electronic coupons issued at the time of taking the vehicle outside will have details such as duration of parking and the exact amount to be paid," he added.

"The tariff boards have been displayed at the entrance gates of the respective parking lots and the customers can immediately complain to the authorities if they suspect something to be amiss," he explained.

"W e are also planning to extend the computerised parking system across the Bangalore division. This will be completed at the earliest," assured Gagarin.


Easy access to platform tickets

The scene at the platform ticket counters is also likely to change very soon. The SWR, by making platform tickets available in STD booths and other stationery stores in the station premises, is aiming to clear the rush in front of these counters.

Platform ticket vending machines set up at the station have reduced the lengths of the queue to an extent. But still, there is a demand for more vending machines. Therefore, two more vending machines have been installed at the STD booths in the station premises, sources said.

"There are also plans to set up platform ticket vending machines in the parking lot. This is will function in a way similar to the way parking vending machines do. Park your veh form ticket and come back and pay the park vehicle out," the sources explained.
