Bangalore: The next set of Arkavathy Layout sites will be allotted by the Bangalore Development Authority by February end. The BDA is working towards allotting nearly 5,000 sites in the second phase. The first phase of allotment of 2,000 sites was done in the first week of January.

Simultaneously, the BDA will start hearing the land owners who have filed their objections against land acquisition. The authorities have received more than 500 objections from land owners. According to the high court order, the BDA should look into the objections and settle them within three months.

Of the 2,750 acres notified for the project, nearly 748 acres are still under litigation and unless this chunk is acquired, the allotment procedure will be incomplete, sources say.

The civil works — marking of plots and road works — are in progress and the BDA has set a target of six months to complete the entire 20,000 allotments.

What started as a preliminary notification for the Layout in February 3, 2003, moved at a swift pace till July 2004 when the project hit the road block and subsequently was stalled in January last year. But another High Court Bench gave the green signal.

The BDA has also been directed by the High Court not to consider those properties which are developed or constructed after the issuance of the preliminary notification on February 3, 2003, for deletion from the final acquisition notification. However, those properties which existed during the time of issuance of preliminary notification will be reviewed on caseto-case basis.

The layout will have two 100 feet roads connecting the four corridors, two lakes which will be sourced from rain water, Cauvery water supply for drinking and secondary treated water for non-domestic purposes and mini-sewage treatment plants. It will have a road network of 386 km ranging from 30 ft roads to 100 ft roads. For water supply, a separate scheme to draw non-potable water from Hebbal secondary treatment plant has been mooted and Cauvery water will be supplied for drinking purposes.
