Problems never end
Problems never end
Deccan Herald
Problems, problems, problems. There seems to be no end to this column. Every time I expected a new problem and ended up with the same old ‘pot-hole’ problems.
Problems, problems, problems. There seems to be no end to this column. Every time I expected a new problem and ended up with the same old ‘pot-hole’ problems. The authorities came up with new schemes and plans to cover these pits and then followed another bunch of authorities who dug out the roads again.
The ‘bad-roads problem’ is like an unending chain reaction. Experts are well aware that the solution is not simple. Electric cables, telephone cables, water pipes, sewage pipes and what not everything is under the roads. Bangalore is not like Chandigarh where separate space is earmarked along the roads for all cables and pipelines.
Another mammoth problem which every Bangalorean is addressing is the traffic. Call IT a boon or a bane, peoples’ problems in the City are here to stay.
We often receive complaints about waterbilling, telephone bills, property deals and credit card problems. Generally people never go through the user manuals, terms and conditions before buying something or taking loan etc. They blindly sign every corner where the counsellor specifies and end up inviting problems.
Everyone is busy in their own world, going through the documents would not be as painful as the problem that emerges later.
Nevertheless, this column has a major impact in addressing public grievances. The authorities write back that the problem has been fixed. To give an example, one day there were no letter. Wow! either the problems had vanished or the authorities had finally woken up thanks to our column. But the euphoria did not last long. To our misfortune, the letters had piled up on our Assistant Editor’s table as she was on leave! So there you are. Back with the unending problems again till we go on to more problems.
