BANGALORE: It has not been easy for Kiran, a software professional, in reaching his office on Hosur Road. He has been one of the several employees who have suffered in traffic hold-ups. He has seen several accidents on the road because of reckless driving.

This is what has made him and his 10 colleagues to get involved in the campaign of iVolunteer, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), to create awareness about road safety.

This 11-member group performed a short skit on road safety on Mahatma Gandhi Road and Brigade Road on Sunday. "It is our own experience that has made us get involved in creating awareness about road safety. By using our talent in performing arts we want to make people aware of their responsibilities while driving in the city " said Kiran's colleague, Allexy. Another group of software professionals sang and danced to re-mix version of Kannada and Hindi films songs with a message on road safety.

One such song was "Kaanadante Maayavaadanu" from the Kannada film "Chalisuva Modagalu".

Commissioner of Police Ajai Kumar Singh, who was among the audience, said such awareness campaign is necessary to reduce road traffic accidents in the city.

Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) M.N. Reddy; Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic- East) M.A. Saleem; and Chief Executive Officer of Philips Software Bob Hoekstra, were present.
