The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to give details on sewer connectivity to residential buildings and the blue-print for effective treatment of sewerage in Bangalore city.

Pointing out the need for effective monitoring of sewerage system, the High Court also asked the authorities to submit a comprehensive report on steps taken to treat the sewerage from residential, industrial and commercial establishments for reducing water pollution.

The Court said that it is high time for the authorities to take steps to check pollution from sewerage, which is increasing with the growth of the city.

Justice Ram Mohan Reddy issued the directions while dealing with a petition related to construction of a multi-storeyed apartment complex being built by M/s Magareth Property Developers on a property adjoining Mount Carmel College on Palace Road.

Pointing out that many areas like Tannery Road in the city are stinking as sewerage was allowed to flow into open drains, the High Court directed the BWSSB to give the number of houses that are connected to the sewerage line.

The High Court has also directed the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to give a report on the steps taken to check the pollution from industrial and commercial establishments, multi-storeyed apartment complexes, hospitals and nursing homes.
