The expert committee formed by the Karnataka High Court to inspect the quality of road work by BMP, submitted its first bi-monthly report to the Court on Friday, wherein it observed the quality to be “nearly 100 per cent below standard level”.

The four-volume report was made based on the survey conducted in 18 wards across 16 packages. Some of the areas surveyed include Koramangala, Airport Road, Jeevanbhimanagar, Peenya, Sanjaynagar, Rajajinagar, Sadashivnagar and Indiranagar. The survey work was conducted between October 10 and November 5.

“The findings were not favourable at all. The quality of BMP roads is very, very bad on all the roads surveyed,” revealed Capt Raja Rao, Chairperson of the expert committee and retired secretary of the Public Works Department. The other two members include retired chief engineer of PWD Balakrishna and retired BMP engineer-in-chief Jai Prasad.

The report, that was submitted in duplicate, includes a synopsis, annexure, maps and related photographs and has been accepted as part of the proceedings.

The committee has also submitted a set of recommendations, that looks into the administrative, financial and technical aspects of road work.

The Committee was constitued following a public interest litigation by former MLA K N Subba Reddy complaining about bad condition of roads in the city.

The first bi-monthly report was supposed to be submitted by November 15 but it got delayed till November 30. The committee has to submit four more reports on the remaining wards in the city before July 15, 2006.
