Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh on Monday directed that repairs of damage caused by the unprecedented rains in Bangalore should begin within the next three days.

The order followed a high-level meeting on infrastructure issues on Monday.

The measures include reconstruction of severely damaged roads and replacement of old and worn-out water and sanitary pipelines.

Addressing mediapersons after the two-hour-long meeting, Singh said that the officials concerned had been given “clear-cut instructions” on how the works should proceed.

The directions are reportedly based on an action plan prepared by the Principal Secretary, Urban Development, M Shameem Banu.

On the question of merging the surrounding city municipal councils (CMCs) with the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), the meeting decided that pending such a measure, the government would post senior KAS officers to these CMCs. The post of executive engineers will be also sanctioned to them.On roads in particular, the BMP will be permitted to bypass the clauses of the Karnataka Transparency and Public Procurements Act while allocating the work on 1i1 select road stretches.

On the BDA’s list of priorities is the development of a 5.5-km outer ring road between Mysore Road and Magadi Road.

The project cost is estimated at Rs 56 crore.

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board will take up on priority total replacement of sanitary lines along the JC Road.
