BANGALORE: It is now the turn of Lalbagh to go hi-tech. The botanical garden will have computerised gates at the main, east, west and Siddapura (Jayanagar) entrances.

Lalbagh officials claimed that the securitymen at the common gates were not able to monitor entry. These computerised gates will thus help monitor entry of visitors better.

The installation of the gates will have an improvised version similar to that in Bannerghatta. It will have pre-records of the visitors and computerised card entries.

According to Deputy Director of Lalbagh, Dr Jagdish the introduction of computerised gates will prevent unnecessary entry. He pointed out that often the securitymen allow these kinds of visitors for a ‘‘small fee’’.

He added that hawkers too take advantage of the situation and get an easy entry. So the installation of these gates help maintain proper records and security.

The gates will also provide hassle-free parking for visitors. The proposed plan is to have a system similar to that on Tumkur highway. It will note the vehicle numbers and keep a record on the timings. The recheck on tickets will also be avoided.

Lalbagh officials have approached HAL, public sector undertakings and 10 other private companies for the installation. They have also spoken to private companies in this regard. The plan will be decided by the Bangalore Garden Trust.

It will take 15 days to confirm the estimates of the gates. According to an official, Lalbagh has funds from the collections of the park. So it will be seen that the new installation will be economically feasible.

For the final installation of gates, it will take another two to three months. Lalbagh officials will have operators to run these computerised gates.

They will be employed by the company concerned.
