RESIDENTS of Koramangala took out a march on Sunday to protest against what they called the bias shown by the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) officials while demolishing buildings in the area.
It may be recalled that buildings were demolished on Saturday following a Court direction.
The march, which began at the Mona High School, passed through the Inner Ring Road and ended at the Bangalore Development Authority complex.
Speaking to BVT , Koramangala W elfare Association president Dr Munireddy said they would be holding a Koramangala bandh on Nov 7. The bandh will begin at 8 am and go on till 8 pm. Only shops and commercial establishments will be closed, he said and added that schools, colleges, hospitals and banks would function as usual.
He alleged that the demolition drive had not been conducted as per the survey and that the buildings belonging to poor had been demolished.
The houses belonging to influential persons have not been touched. They have been given enough time to approach the Court to get a stay . What s wrong if a doctor is running a clinic in his garage. After a the services of a doctor is required by al Moreover , the housing board has provision for running clinics, consultants, he said.
Munireddy said the association would file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Court, urging it to direct the Bangalore City Corporation to conduct a survey on the deviations in buildings throughout Bangalore.
Based on the findings of the survey , the BCC authorities would decide on their future course of action, he pointed out.
Considering the problems sympathetically , the BCC should regularise the deviations up to 25 per cent by imposing fine and the government can utilise the fine for development activities
