The KIADB will purchase land from farmers at prevailing market rates and will give it to companies.

Land allotment for mega industrial projects, which were cleared by the State government last month is scheduled to be completed in the next six months.

Of the 24 mega projects with a total investment of Rs 24,893 crore, which have been given ‘in-principle’ clearance by the high-level clearance committee of the State government headed by Chief Minister Dharam Singh, quite a few companies are expanding their operations in the land allotted to them, sources in the Directorate of Industries and Commerce told Deccan Herald. These include automobile major Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited, which has planned to establish a facility for the manufacture of ‘compact cars’ in 200 acres of land within the existing factory premises in Bidadi industrial area, Bangalore Rural district, sources said.

Market Rate

New companies, which have come forward to invest in the state will be provided land by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB). The KIADB will purchase land from farmers at the prevailing market rate through ‘consent agreement’. The Government will provide land to the companies for which the latter would have to pay, sources said. “We are confident of completing the land acquisition and allotment process in six months,” a senior official of the industries department said.

Tax exemption

All the new companies will get entry tax exemption and other incentives as per the Industrial Policy of 2001-06. Plan sanction, power, water supply connection will be provided only after formalities such as land conversion (from agriculture to industrial purpose) are completed. Mega projects, which have been given clearance by the State government to give a fillip to industrial growth, have 24 months validation, which means that the projects are required to be implemented in two-years, sources said.

Of the 24 projects, eight would be set up in and around Bangalore city. The projects are mainly in automobile, steel, sugar and IT sectors, which will provide employment to 83,385 people.
