BANGALORE: Former mayor and Congress leader P R Ramesh, on Monday, blamed the Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BMP) officers for poor quality of roads in the city, especially after recent rains.

Speaking to reporters here, the former mayor alleged that the civic body officers do not implement the decisions taken by elected representatives. The Government must order an enquiry to fix responsibility for bad condition of roads, he said.

“Whenever it rains, the roads were washed away and potholes surface causing inconvenience to motorists. Unscientific way of putting black-top is the reason for such a bad condition of roads,” he said.

Ramesh said the cost of bond roads was initially estimated as Rs 125 crore, but it had escalated to Rs 220 crore when the 250 km project was completed.

“Even after spending so much of money why roads did not last long,” he questioned.

“Poor maintenance is a major reason for deterioration of roads. The answers given by authorities for dropping road maintenance project are not valid,” he said.

Ramesh gave several suggestions to the State Government to improve roads like forming a guided policy for better roads.
