ONE of the offices of WiproLtd has been completely cut off because of heavy rains which caused flooding.

The company today said it has put in place "a well-documented and tested disaster recovery, business continuity and contingency management plan that was invoked on Sunday evening." It has made arrangements for employees to work out of more than six other office locations in Bangalore and outside the city, according to a company statement.

One of its offices on Hosur Road was completely flooded, while the other offices along the road were not `directly affected.' Eyewitness account estimate the water level submerging at least seven feet of the building even as Wipro's neighbour, HTMT was also flooded out. About 2,300-2,500 people work in four of Wipro's offices along the Hosur Road, apart from 11,000 in Electronics City.

The Hosur Road office that had about 500 people of the product engineering services division was affected, it is learnt.

However, the company did not divulge details of the numbers or the work being done out of the office. "Arrangements were made for people to work out of other offices and some even offered to work from home," according to the company.

The work and the employees are not dependent on locations, according to a company spokesperson.

HTMT officials were not available for comment, but it is learnt that about 2,500 people usually work out of HTMT's Hosur Road office, primarily doing call centre work catering to customers in India and the US.

The company has other delivery centres in South-East Asia, but it could not be learnt if the work had been shifted to other centres, though the Bangalore centre employees had been given a holiday today.
