Oct 23 wettest day: Rains crush records too !
Deccan Herald

October 2005 is all set to create a historic record of being the wettest month ever in Bangalore, said Dr A L Koppar, Director of Meteorological Centre.

With another 50 mm of rainfall in the next few days, Banglore will soon break the record that was set in 1956 as the all-time highest monthly rainfall. Referring to the heavy rainfall that Bangalore has been witnessing since Saturday evening at (120.7 mm) Dr Koppar said that a low pressure area over South West Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu coast had moved closer to Bangalore causing heavy rainfall in the City.

In the next few weeks, heavy rains are also expected in the City as another low-pressure area is moving from Andaman & Nicobar Islands towards Bangalore.

Another distinction could also be in the offing. With another 32 mm of rainfall, this year could be the year of setting the record of highest rainfall ever, he added. Previously, a record for highest annual rainfall was set in 1998.
