Loss of oxygen led to fish-kill in Madivala
VIJAY TIMES NEWS

Bangalore: The reason for the death of a large number of fish in Madivala lake on Sunday has been attributed to the depletion in the levels of o xygen in the lake, follo wing heavy inflo w of sewage from K odi Chikkanahalli.

Interestingly , many officials, including Ramaiah, member secretary of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, were not aware of the death.

However, one official said this was a usual phenomenon during the rainy season.

KSPCB sources said there were large inflows of waste into the storm-water drains which, in turn, flowed into the lake. This made the water murky and poisonous. A few residents complained the sewage system was not being maintained properly and its contents were being discharged into the lake without being treated.
