Form panel to plan development: ex-Mayor

BANGALORE: To tackle the problems related to infrastructure in Bangalore, the former Mayor P.R. Ramesh has suggested to the Government to constitute a Bangalore Metropolitan Planning Committee to prepare plans and execute them in coordination with the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and the town municipalities for the outlying areas.

Residents of Bangalore and the municipalities around it are facing infrastructure bottlenecks owing to absence of coordinated planning. The Government should adopt an investor-friendly policy and encourage foreign direct investment in infrastructure. Private investment will reduce the burden on the Government, Mr. Ramesh has said in a statement to the press.

The constitution of a Bangalore Infrastructure Development Board and formulation of a policy regarding foreign direct investment will help mobilise resources for executing infrastructure projects in and around Bangalore, he said.

There is a constitutional provision for setting up the committee, which will help municipalities prepare development plans.
