‘Build second runway at Devanahalli now’

The State government is under pressure to consider taking up expansion work at the Devanahalli International Airport keeping in view the increase in air traffic, Finance Minister P G R Sindhia said on Sunday.

Speaking after launching the academic session of the Jain Engineering School on the outskirts of the City, he said that in the opinion of experts, the State should simultaneously develop the second runway to meet the growing demand of air traffic to the City.

Double traffic

The present passenger traffic of four million is expected to double in 2008 when the first flight would take off from the Devanahalli International airport, he said adding that the work at the airport would be completed by December 2007.

Earlier the plan was to take up expansion work only after 20 years, but the experts have advised brooking no delay.
