BMP finds temporary sites for dumping garbage

BANGALORE: Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has arranged temporary dumping yards for over 2,500 tonnes of garbage collected every day in the city.Garbage trucks, which remained stranded on Wednesday, have dumped garbage at temporary sites at Mavallipura, Kaveripatna and Garvebavipalya.

The Karnataka Compost Development Corporation (KCDC) has agreed to take more trucks to ease the situation.

Chief Health Officer of BMP Tandava Murthy told The Hindu that Additional Commissioner Harsh Gupta held a meeting with contractors and other officials concerned to solve the problem on Thursday. While one has to pray that rain should not play spoilsport hindering garbage dumping, permanent solution will be in place by December end, Dr. Murthy said.

Bangalore Mahanagara Swachchate Lorry Malikara Haagu Guttigedarara Sangha general secretary S. Balasubramaniam told The Hindu that BMP has made arrangements for dumping garbage by 70 trucks each at the temporary sites.

A delegation of BMP officials, contractors and drivers will be meeting the Police Commissioner and the Inspector-General of Police, Central Range, to extend police protection to trucks and drivers while dumping garbage, he added.
