BANGALORE: Mayor R Narayanaswamy defended the BCC saying the damage was in the CMC area and BCC areas have been taken care of. He further said citizens should be careful before buying property in low-lying areas.

‘‘Citizens purchase property near tank beds and revenue pockets. They should not complain of flooding later. The CMCs should not approve building plans in such cases,’’ he added.

BCC Commissioner K Jothiramalingam said the civic body had attended to all complaints. He said over 90 complaints had poured into the BCC control rooms so far.

Jothiramalingam however said the work on stormwater drains had been halted due to the rains. In addition to remodelling primary and secondary drains, the BCC has taken up the remodelling of tertiary drains, he added.

But the shortage of gang men was a problem, he said.

‘‘In 14 executive engineer divisions we have a total of 140 gang men and we need more. The additional manpower will be outsourced,’’ Jothiramalingam said.
