‘Prevent ugly growth of this charming City’

Justice Rajendra Babu, retired chief justice of India, said that Bangalore was the ‘most liked’ city but was fast losing its charm. “There is no point in being nostalgic over it. The solution lies in preventing the ugliness and haphazard growth of the City.”
He was speaking at a function organised to release the novel, “Corridors of Time” authored by Mr Vinay Krishnan. The novel tracks the story of a young man growing up in Bangalore. Quoting observations made by Justice Chennappa Reddy, retired supreme court judge, Justice Babu said, “Bangalore was a beautiful city once with magic and charm. It was bountiful with trees, flowers and plenty of space. Now what greets one are soot and smoke, high rise buildings and chimneys. The space has disappeared and so have the trees and flowers. The elements of the supposed progress and modernisation, which invariably occupy a space in the scheme of life, block the eyes.”
