The State Government has talked much about developing Mysore into the next IT destination all along. Now it seems to be on the job. The State Information Technology Department has directed Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) to acquire 500 acres of land in Mysore for IT companies.
The department has recently directed the KIADB to identify the location of land in Mysore, where infrastructure - construction of roads, drainage, water supply system and others as suited to IT companies - will be taken up, highly-placed sources in KIADB told Deccan Herald.
The location of the land to be acquired will in all probability be around Hebbal Industrial area, where IT major Infosys has already set up Global Education Centre, which is the world’s biggest training centre.
It is developed on 270 acres of land to accommodate 4,500 people at a time. “We have begun identifying land and acquisition process will be initiated soon,” KIADB sources added. Besides, KIADB has already acquired 220 acres of land in Pura and Hanagalli villages. The acquisition process for another 230 acres near Mogarahalli -- off K R S Road -- has already begun. These land portions are earmarked to be allotted to IT companies.
In fact, IT giant Wipro has already booked 230 acres in Pura and Hanagalli villages. Presently, the entire land is kept undeveloped as KIADB is awaiting further orders from the Government. “Usually, we develop the land. But it also depends on the requirements of big IT companies. Wipro generally prefers to develop its own land as suited to its needs,” sources said.
This is not all. Several leading IT companies, including i-flex, Patni Computers, have also sought land here. Each of these companies have applied for over 100 acres of land. In addition, five IT companies have proposed to set up their own “IT Parks” in different locations here.
They have asked between 40 to 60 acres of land for this purpose. “We are in the final stages of processing their applications,” sources in Karnataka Udyog Mitra, the single-window agency to clear investments in the State said.
Meanwhile, the IT Dept has directed KIADB to acquire 500 acres (yet to identify location). It has already acquired 220 acres in Pura and Hanagalli villages and will acquire 230 acres in Mogarahalli.
