Get ready to pay ’n’ park

Get ready to pay ’n’ park
The Times of India

The days of free parking could well be numbered. The traffic police have asked the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) to reintroduce the pay-and-park scheme in the city.

Reason: Haphazard parking and increase in the number of vehicle thefts.

“At the recent coordination meeting between various civic agencies, we had proposed to the BCC to scrap free parking in the city. Ever since the pay-and-park system was discontinued, complaints of vehicular thefts have gone up,’’ said M A Saleem, DCP, traffic (east), on Monday, at the first-ever Times NiE Newsmakers’ Meet.

City Crime Branch has recorded 156 cases of vehicular thefts in the first 20 days after the pay-andpark scheme was scrapped on April 1.
“Since there are no parking attendants, it has led to haphazard parking in the city. Over 50 per cent of parking space is being wasted, denying genuine road users enough space,’’ he added.
