The Bangalore Association of Pedestrians United (BAPU) has been formed as an effort to create awareness among pedestrians about their rights and to fight for them.

At a press conference in Bangalore on Thursday, members of BAPU, including Founder President of the Humour Club International Y M N Murthy, stressed the need for pedestrian rights on road and at various traffic junctions. While urging the presence of a policeman at each busy crossing, the members also demanded that vehicle users who violate the law be punished.

Ms H S Prema, nutritionist, Varenya Nutrition Concepts, said that people have forgotten walking thanks to increased dependence on vehicles. In fact, a lot of them have health related complaints due to less amount of physical exercise, she added.
