BANGALORE: The K.R. Puram City Municipal Council (CMC) authorities on Friday cleared several shops and other encroachments in a demolition drive.

The authorities, who continued the drive for second day, completed their work despite opposition from the shopkeepers.

The authorities, accompanied by the police, carried out the operation on Basava Nagar Main Road.

Using an earth moving equipment the authorities cleared the shops that had encroached the footpath.

They pulled down some of the projections.

The affected shopkeepers obstructed the drive by stating that they had not been given notice. They said that the CMC had targeted only the shops on one side of the road and not touched the shops on the other side.

The CMC officials said the shopkeepers had been served notices. The shopkeepers had not bothered to clear the encroachments despite several reminders.
