Don‘t commercialise Indiranagar: residents
New Indian Express
BANGALORE: Indiranagar residents have opposed plans to commercialise the area, mooted in BDA’s Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP). ‘‘If BDA has its way, the peace of Indiranagar will be shattered and it will go the Koramangala way,’’ they said in their memorandum to be presented to the BDA.
They point out that the CDP views the Indiranagar planning area as ‘‘a natural extension of the Central Business District’’.
The CDP’s proposal to convert the 100-Feet Road, the 80-Feet Road, 12th Main (East) and the 10th Main of Jeevan Bima Road into commercial axes has also been opposed.
‘‘ We have asked for strict control over the establishments that have already come up and measures against commercial establishments that have come up on residential streets such as 1st Main, 6th Main and 12th Main,’’ they said.
They have also opposed the proposal to raise the Floor Area Ratio of residential plots from 0.75 to 2. ‘‘This can lead to a quadrupling of residential units, a huge increase in the demand for car parking, water, power, solid waste disposal beyond the capacity of the BCC to handle,’’ they said.
The proposal to permit a number of ancillary uses of residential plots including small industrial units on the grounds that it can alter the peaceful residential character of the area has also been opposed.
The residents have drawn attention to the problems created by locating schools on residential plots without regard to issues such as traffic management or the provision of playgrounds or disturbance to adjacent residences.
The conversion of certain green areas into residential plots and the shrinking of green space from 7.3 per cent of the total plan area to 6.6 per cent as against a specified norm of 15 per cent has also come in for opposition.
They have asked for reconstruction of storm water drains, which pass through Indiranagar and have demanded the early completion of the Airport Road flyover. They have also expressed concern over the viability of the Rapid Rail Transit System and its alignment through Indiranagar.
