Avoidable tree felling on Residency Road

Last night, a tree has been stealthily felled on Residency Road, in front of the Vijaya Bank, near Bishop Cotton's Boys School, in order to build a pedestrian overbridge. When there were several vacant spaces between the trees on this stretch of road, where the overbridge could have been built, the selection of this specific space and the consequent felling of the tree cannot but be held as a deliberate act. Further, another tree is likely to be felled in front of the Cottons Complex on the other side of the road where the overbridge will land. It is sad to see that the civic authorities seemed to be determined to deplete the city of its green cover.
