More ill-advised flyovers

Work on seven more flyovers to start soon

The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike will soon complete the tendering process on seven flyovers for Bangalore, BMP Commissioner K Jothiramalingam said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the inauguration of the National College junction flyover and foundation stone unveiling ceremony of a parking cum commercial complex at Gandhi Bazaar, the commissioner said the tender notifications have been issued and they will be finalised in about three months. Flyovers at R V Teachers’ College Circle, Yeshwanthpur Circle, Minerva Circle and Southend Circle figure are among them.

The commissioner also noted that the BMP is in talks with the Railway authorities over the six railway bridges (ROBs & RUBs) found necessary across the city.

Among them are the railway over-bridges at Mathikere and ITC Factory junction. The National College junction flyover, inaugurated on Tuesday, connects Basavanagudi, Banashankari, Jayanagar, Visveswarapuram, Hanumantha Nagar, Srinagar, Padmanabhanagar, Girinagar and surrounding areas. The parking cum commercial complex, for which the foundation stone plaque was unveiled on Tuesday, will benefit people in Gandhi Bazaar and DVG Road limits. The parking complex is billed to accommodate 400 two-wheelers and 50 four-wheelers at a given time.
