Soma Enterprise Director Ankineedu Maganti opined that the route between Bangalore and Mysore will have a multiplier effect on Karnataka’s economy.

Bangalore to Mysore in 120-minutes! This may become a reality if the entire 120-km odd stretch of the State Highway is completed by December, 2005. Soma Enterprise Limited, a leading infrastructure developer, which has bagged the Government contract to complete four-laning from Maddur to Mysore (49 kms) is ready to complete the project by December 2005, five months ahead of schedule.

Commuters will be able to travel between Bangalore and Mysore in two hours instead of the present three-and-a-half-hours from December 2005, provided the consortium of three other construction companies, which has bagged a separate contract to execute the stretch from Bangalore to Maddur (60 odd kms) also complete the work by December.

“We are ready to complete the work on the Maddur-Mysore stretch ahead of schedule to set new standards in infrastructure development” Mr Ankineedu Maganti, director, Soma Enterprise Limited told reporters at the project site in Maddur. The improved route between Bangalore and Mysore will have a multiplier effect on Karnataka’s economy, besides easing traffic.

Work on this stretch was taken up at a cost of Rs 116 crore in May 2004 and was scheduled to be completed in 24-months (May 2006), he said.

Of the 49-kms stretch, four-laning work has been completed on nearly 40 kms. Construction of four major bridges over Lokapavani, Cauvery and Paschimavahini is being undertaken. Road widening is expected to be completed by October.

“We are confident of completing the work on the bridges by December”, Mr Maganti said. Nearly 500 engineers and support staff are engaged in the work of completing the project, he added.

Only in a few stretches in Boodanur near Mandya there are problems pertaining to land acquisition. The Government has assured to sort out the problem and hand over the land for the early completion of the project.

Maddur-Mysore four-laning work involves construction of 23 minor bridges, 122 culverts, 22 bus bays and straightening of 19 curves, he said.

Mr Maganti said that Soma Enterprise Limited was undertaking an infrastructure development project (Maddur-Mysore stretch of the State Highway) for the first time in Karnataka.
