The State Opposition and some members of the ruling coalition on Tuesday criticised the State Government for delay in allotment of sites in Arkavathy Layout even as Chief Minister N Dharam Singh said the Government will hold discussions with its lawyers to expedite the disposal of the case in the High Court.

Mr Singh said that the Government will allot 20,000 sites once the issue is settled by the Court, while responding to the matter raised by V Somanna (Congress) during the question hour.

The BDA received 2,35,002 applications for the 20,000 sites and the deposit money collected was Rs 954.27 crore. The Government has refunded the deposits of 2,15,002 applicants, he said.

He said BDA has planned a mega residential layout in the City comprising 50,000 sites to cater to meet the demand for sites.

Earlier, Opposition members including Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha (KCVP) member Vatal Nagaraj said the BDA had failed to allot even a single site this year.

“More than a year has passed and the BDA is yet to allot sites”, J C Madhuswamy of JD (U) said. The Government should take steps to allot alternate land for the 20,000 applicants, he added.

Intervening, the chief minister said that the Government was prepared for a detailed discussion on the Arkavathy Layout issue.

Mr R Roshan Baig (Congress) wanted the Government to bring out a white paper on Arkavathy Layout giving reasons for denotifying the lands belonging to the rich, including former ministers, IAS and IPS officers.

When the matter was raised in the Assembly, Mr Baig said 300 to 500 acres of land belonging to the former ministers, IAS and IPS officers have been denotified, while lands belonging to the poor were acquired. He demanded disclosure of names of the people, whose lands have been denotified.
