Third party for airport flyover?

Bangalore: Will work on the pending airport road flyover and the Jayadeva grade separator begin soon?

According to sources, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and its original contractor Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation (UPSBC) have now agreed to set up a third-party committee to look into schedules and costs for the pending projects.

On Tuesday, UPSBC reportedly gave BDA its calculations (cost, timelines and so on) for the pending airport road flyover and Jayadeva grade separator projects. BDA will now analyse these figures and later, come out with its own.

Both parties have been holding meetings since Monday to discuss the issue. Sources said the third-party committee will have one official each from BDA and UPSBC. While officials on both sides remained non-committal, it is learnt that Tuesday’s meeting will spill over onto Wednesday, when a final decision will be taken.

The meetings have reportedly involved everyone from the principal secretary, urban development to the BDA commissioner and the chairman, and the UPSBC top brass. The BDA technical advisory committee chairman will represent the authority on the third-party committee. The delay in completing the projects has, in the past, led to public protests.
