Turning an area green, not with envy, but with trees is not a difficult task, especially if the people make up their minds. Basavanagudi is a perfect example.

Turning an area green, not with envy, but with trees is not a difficult task, especially if the people make up their minds. Basavanagudi is a perfect example.

Under the ‘Praja Parisara-Basavanagudi’ project, residents, led by MLA K Chandrashekar, planted as many as 5,000 saplings in and around the area, to contribute their share to making Bangalore a green city again. The project was launched on World Environment Day this year and is expected to span the entire year. This is not all, though. There were more initiatives for conservation like adoption of rain harvesting methods and distribution of plants on a regular basis.

But this green effort will get a touch of stardom when cine actor Rajkumar will plant a sapling on July 6 at the Sajjan Rao Circle in Basavanagudi. The planting of the sapling is slotted to begin by 11 am.

A rally is also being organised to create awareness about preserving the environment. Students from colleges and schools in that area are expected to participate. For details, contact 26626979.
