An exclusive park for senior citizens was inaugurated at the Defence Colony in Indiranagar on Sunday.

Spread over an area of 7,000 sq ft, the park was developed over the last six months at a cost of Rs 4 lakh. It was funded by the State Bank of India and the Defence Colony Residents’ Association (DeCoRA).

According to DeCoRA Joint Secretary Akshai Mallappa, there is no restriction on entry to the park, however prority is for senior citizens. The attendants of the elderly can also accompany them inside the park, he said.

Spacious walkways and seating arrangements have been made available, railings along the walkways will be put up shortly, he said.

Only a children’s park was available in the area earlier and senior citizens had desired one for themselves too. A barren land available in the area was being used as an open garbage dump and DeCoRA took permission from the BMP to develop it into a park, Mr Mallappa said. The Senior Citizens Park is located at 4th Main, Defence Colony, Indiranagar.
