Dacoits and burglars continue to spread terror in HSR layout in Bangalore. They have struck at five houses in the area in the last two weeks, exposing the poor state of police patrolling.

In the wee hours of Saturday, they attacked three houses in HSR Layout Sector I and managed to loot one. At the house of Mr Chandrahas Reddy, retired Joint Controller of State Accounts Department, the culprits opened the windows and took the keys. Later, they entered the house and ransacked the puja room. There were 11 people sleeping in the house at the time. The miscreants did not enter the rooms as they were occupied by people. They took the car keys from the hall and stole the mobile phone kept in the vehicle, the police said.

At 6:00 am, Mr Reddy’s wife Janaki found the puja room empty and alerted other family members. They had lost silver and gold items worth over Rs 50,000.

At 3:00 am, the armed gang had also tried to enter the house of Dr P M S Namboothiri, a scientist at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics on 11th cross. The scientist’s wife Sulochana woke up and switched on the lights to find out where the sound was coming from. Sensing danger, the miscreants fled. By then they had broken two locks.

But before fleeing from the area, they had tried to enter the house of Anil on 22nd Main Road, a few metres away from the scientist’s house. As the door lock was strong, they tried to remove the wooden door frame. But Anil and his family members awoke and raised an alarm. The neighbours woke up and the culprits ran away.

The residents said Madivala and Koramangala police stations were far and they needed a police station or at least a police outpost in their area.
