Even as the surge of global IT companies coming to Bangalore keeps growing, the field of biotechnology is also witnessing gathering of steam. Two BT global corporations - Dow Corporation and Pall Corporation - are looking at options of setting up their research centres in the IT and BT hotbead of India.
Shankarlinge Gowda, secretary IT&BT, Government of Karnataka, said that these two corporations have evinced keen interest in setting up research centres in Bangalore.
“In our recent visit to the US, we did meet these companies and they are keen to tap the biotechnology talent in Bangalore. We are pursuing with them on this issue and we anticipate they will take a decision at an early date.” Both these conglomerates already have marketing and sales offices in India.
Dow, the $40 billion conglomerate, besides this plan, already runs a technical centre in India for polyurethane systems.
For Indians, Dow will ring a bell as it now has Union Carbide under its belt. Dow serves customers in 175 countries and a wide range of markets that are vital to human progress such as food, transportation, health and medicine, personal and home care, and building and construction, among others.
Dow's R&D organisation enables corporate growth through market-driven, scientific and technical innovation. Two-thirds of R&D efforts go towards value growth, and one third goes toward value preservation.
Pall Corporation, a $1.8 billion entity, is a global player in the rapidly growing field of filtration, separations and purification. Pall's business is organised around two broad markets, Life Sciences and Industrial.
The company provides products to meet the demanding needs of customers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, transfusion medicine, semiconductors, water purification, aerospace and broad industrial markets.
