Project to get defence land soon

The long-delayed Bangalore Metro chugged past a hurdle on Tuesday as the Defence Ministry showed green signal for release of its land in the cyber city for the ambitious project.
At a high-level meeting chaired by Defence Secretary Ajai Vikram Singh, it was decided that working permission be given to the Metro which has a requirement of 101.7 acres of defence land.
The meeting was also attended by Karnataka Revenue Secretary S M Jamdar, Bangalore Metro Managing Director K N Srivastava and top officers of the Defence Estates.
Mr Srivastava said it was a great achievement since it would avoid project delay.
The defence secretary stressed that Bangalore had attained international status and, for such a city, infrastructure-related projects should not be allowed to drag on.
Since the transfer of land had to be okayed by the Union Cabinet, the meeting decided that permission would be accorded pending Cabinet approval.
Of the 101.7 acres, 100 acres belong to the Indian Air Force and 1.7 acres to the Army.
