Expressway no more on stilts!

Expressway no more on stilts!
To Co-Exist With BMIC Interchange On Hosur Road
The Times of India

Bangalore: The deadlock between the Electronic City Association-sponsored elevated expressway (road on stilts) and NICE, which is implementing the BMIC project, appears to have finally ended. At a meeting on Tuesday, the two parties agreed upon a formula wherein both the BMIC interchange and the elevated expressway on Hosur Road can co-exist. “NICE has proposed a new design which we are agreeing to,” said sources close to the Electronic City Association. The two parties
are slated to brief the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) about the new design, and NICE has undertaken to prepare a design for the expressway as a goodwill.

Earlier, the point of contention was BMIC’s interchange and the elevated expressway would be passing too close to each other, making it impossible for heavy traffic movement. Following this, NHAI asked NICE to change its interchange. NICE and NHAI then went to court, and the latter asked the parties to go for a mutual settlement. Now, the Electronic City Association has agreed to NICE’s proposal that the height of the elevated expressway be made consistent throughout its
stretch. This involves increasing the height of the stilts at the point where the BMIC interchange crosses Hosur Road. With this, the gap between the two roads would be close to 5.5 metres. The original design proposed by NHAI had the expressway dip at this point following the contour of the road.
